Kapalua Beach Sunset
Perhaps it’s the potency of the mai tais. It could also be a heightened sense of awareness that comes from being so relaxed on your vacation. Or maybe it’s just a natural phenomenon that can’t be explained. Whatever it is, people swear that Maui sunsets are like no other on Earth.

One thing is certain, no two are ever alike. The vivid nightly displays seem to last for hours, beginning with silver and golden hues, then painting the sky with lavenders, reds, and purples… before cooling into a brilliant midnight blue.
Journeying down to the beach at dusk is a nightly ritual for many on Maui, and of all the places to see the sunset, Kapalua Beach tops the list.
By day, Kapalua Beach is gorgeous crescent of white sand fringed with palm trees and dotted with coral reefs populated with a rainbow of tropical fish. It’s a sheltered bay, so it’s especially well suited for families with small children. The gentle waves and immediate access to reefs are ideal for those learning to snorkel.
But at sunset, as torches are lit up and down the coast, the setting transforms from a tropical playground into a hushed, romantic enclave. Couples stroll the sands, hand in hand, or snuggle up against the base of a palm tree to watch the stars come out.
Tip: In the winter months, you may wish to bring a light jacket. Maui’s wonderful trade winds can be more noticeable after dark.
