Farmers Markets
Often referred to as Hawaii’s Valley Island, Maui’s rich volcanic soils are ideal for growing a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, and flowers. Nowhere is this more evident than at Maui’s various farmers markets. The open air stalls and colorful displays are filled with interesting displays and fresh aromas, making it the perfect place to, quite literally, get a taste of local culture.
TIP:
Some markets open as early as 7 am. Get up and go early for the best selection.

As with most farmers markets, you’ll likely find plenty of items like lettuce, tomatoes, strawberries, and squash… but you’ll also discover some delicious surprises. Favorite local fruits are plentiful, including papayas (both green and ripe), bananas, and pineapples fresh from the field. You’ll also find many products unique to the area, such as sweet Kula onions from Upcountry Maui, Molokai sweet potatoes, locally produced Kaanapali coffee, flavorful macadamia nuts, and a rainbow of tropical flowers.
In addition to produce, there are usually a few mouthwatering baked goods to sample, as well as specialty items including island salsa, jams, and marmalades. The best stuff is often snapped up by local chefs and gourmands, so plan to arrive early - and bring small bills.
